Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Google Calendar
  • College Degree required or at least job specific training or degree in this field
  • 5 years’ experience working in related field
  • Verification of industry courses taken during the last 2 years
  • Able to type fluently.
  • Must be able to keep up with latest technology as it relates to today’s business and social environment
  • Must be able to pass a background check with regards to criminal and credit worthiness as well as a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver License
  • Must be available to work full time hours
  • Job may require some travel, mostly local

Desirable skills

  • Pleasant telephone voice
  • Familiarity with the ministries and functions of a Missionary Baptist Church
  • Experience in facilities management
  • Prior experience working in a church or community outreach environment
  • Ability to work in various graphics programs including Photoshop and InDesign

Essential job function – Responsibilities

  • To attend to and complete timely, all directives as delegated by the pastor; noting that all task from the pastor supersede requests from all other church officers to include auxiliaries and/or church members
  • To carry out all activities that may or may not exceed the general day-to-day activities of this position as delineated by the Pastor.
  • Offer administrative support (limited to church business only) to the Pastor as well as other members or ministries within the church.
  • Maintain Pastor’s schedule/calendar as well as the facilities
  • Maintain the operations and overall management of the Church facilities
  • Provide Church Leadership with an overview of daily operations and ensures compliance with operational and safety policy and procedures.
  • Inspection of the Church facilities and daily operations; Maintenance of a master schedule, project plans and monthly reports. Represent the church with community organizations and market facilities to external businesses and organizations.
  • Additional Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintain church calendar
  • Answer all incoming calls and taking necessary messages and/or actions as required
  • Schedule all events to be held on the church campus to include the sanctuary as well as other church facilities
  • Schedule maintenance repairs as requested
  • Maintenance of office supplies to include ordering and organizing as needed; maintaining records as it relates to the office need and usage; as needed for by the Pastor or other ministries - all materials, whether for the Pastor, member or ministry must be approved by the Pastor
  • Create bulletins, monthly newsletter, reports, memos, letters, presentations, pamphlets, flyers, booklets, etc. or any materials as stated by the Pastor.
  • Sort and distribute mail
  • Obtain and research materials for information as needed or stated by the Pastor.
  • Photocopy all materials as needed and requested.
  • Enter member contributions into system on a weekly basis. Will be asked to provide statements to members when requested.
  • Attend classes and/or any other training to remain current in all job related areas and any other training as delineated by the Pastor.
  • Will work closely with the custodial staff and other church leaders and members as needed

Position: Minister of Music

    Job Description – Minister of Music

    Qualifications

    1. Must have a basic ability to use computer software, proficient with technology, and familiarity with social websites
    2. Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
    3. Ability to work flexibly in a team environment
    4. Capable of reading music proficiently
    5. Involved in continuing education and professional development
    6. He/she shall have strong organizational skills
    7. Experience of working with different types of choirs
    8. Schedule, direct, and lead choir practice
    9. Should be proficient with the following instruments:
      1. Organ
      2. Piano, and the
      3. Keyboard
    10. Demonstrate ability in directing choirs and/or ensembles
    11. Proficient accompaniment skills in contemporary gospel music, praise/worship style, as well as hymns
    12. Demonstrate skills with planning and preparing for programs
    13. Play music or coordinate for Sunday service and/or coordinate for Mid-week services including the following:
      1. Church member funeral services
      2.  Special church services and events
      3. Travel with choirs to other churches for anniversaries, revivals, etc.
      4. Choir rehearsals

    Desirable skills

    1. Ability to integrate contemporary music in a church setting
    2. Understand diverse styles and genres of music
    3. Knowledge of church calendar and music appropriate for it
    4. Prior experience as a Minister/ Music Director in a church
    5. Ability to play by ear
    6. Minimum 5 years of experience in working with a church choir
    7. Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university

    Essential job function – Responsibilities

    1. Oversee and provide resources for all worship services at the church
    2. Serve as primary accompanist for congregation’s worship
    3. Attend and participate in monthly planning meeting with Pastor
    4. Select services music and hymns in consultation with the Pastor
    5. Recruit, enlist, organize and lead rehearsals for musicians, soloist, choirs and/or ensembles
    6. Supervise and manage all paid and volunteer musicians/ vocalists
    7. Prepare an annual budget and administer the approved budget for the Music Department

About Us

The Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church (GMSBC) of Charlotte, NC, an eighty four year old traditional African American congregation, founded in 1933 out of the Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church.  The congregation met at various locations until it found a permanent location on 7th   Street and in 1975 it moved to its present location at 1243 West Boulevard.  The present location has been expanded with a Fellowship Hall in 1993 and most recently in 2010, added a Family Life Enrichment Center for expansion of church ministries.  The present Church membership roll is approximately 1000 and has an annual budget of approximately $1 million dollars, to support GMSBC’s Vision of Being a Full Time Caring Church That Searches for the Lost.   More information can be found at www.gmsbc.org.
